If you couldn’t make it out to Las Vegas for VMworld, then you missed one heck of a great show (not to mention a killer party last night at the Las Vegas Speedway…three words “Shelby Mustang GT”).  The good news is that you can access the keynotes from VMworld online:

Additionally, the presentations from the sessions and labs should be available on the VMworld 2008 website in the near future.  I’ll post the specific link when available.

Unfortunately, I have been too busy having great discussions and working sessions with my customers and I haven’t been able to write about all the other great things from the show.  Expect a recap later in the week…

For those who can’t make it to VMworld in person,  you can sign up to watch the keynote addresses online.  The two keynotes are at:

  • September 16, 2008 8:00 AM PDT - Paul Maritz, President and CEO of VMware, Inc.
  • September 17, 2008 8:00 AM PDT - Dr. Stephen Alan Herrod, CTO and Sr. VP of R & D of VMware, Inc.

Updated:  Now including links to the webcasts…oops!  :-)

Looks like the new was released earlier than I had expected.  Yesterday, ahead of VMworld in Las Vegas, VMware announced the Virtual Datacenter OS (VDC-OS). VDC-OS is (in my mind) a very logical extension of the VMware offering to provide a unified framework for enterprises to power and manage virtualization in their datacenter.  It also also the pre-cursor to eneable the virtualized services to be moved between the enterprise datacenter and enabled cloud providers.  I think this is where things will get really interesting in the future.

Since I don’t have a lot of time to comment on this announcement right now (I’m waiting to board my flight to VMworld), here is a list of reading sources about this announcement:

Watch for more comments through out the week…

Most of the preparations are set for VMworld next week in Las Vegas.  I’ll be down there from Monday through Thursday.  I know that this will be a very exciting show, just based on the announcements that VMware will be making (wish I could tell you more, but not gonna happen till next week…).

I have caught wind of a number of companies that will be making announcements at VMworld next week, including:

  • VMware  (Duh!)
  • Cisco (very exciting announcement, but I can’t say more…)
  • IBM
  • Intel
  • NEC
  • Many, many others both big and not so.

It will be both a fun and hectic week.  All three of my Global Accounts will be attending the show in various sized troupes.  So, between my meetings with them, networking with colleagues, attending the Keynotes, browsing through the Solutions Exchange, and jumping in on a few sessions, I’ll be trying to post as many updates from VMworld as possible.   You’ll be able to find them here under the VMworld 2008 topic as well as via Twitter to the VMWorld Twitter Account and/or the VMworld Hashtag (all depends on how much I have to say… :-)  ).

If you’re at the show, let me know.  It’s all about networking!

Oh yeah, and I’ll have my camera in tow…make sure to smile.

(Disclosure: I am currently employed at VMware as a Global Accounts Solutions Consultant)
